Statement by the Afghanistan Embassy Charge d'Affaires on the death of Master Corporal Byron Garth Greff in Afghanistan

Ottawa October 31, 2011: Mr. Ershad Ahmadi, Charge d'Affaires of the Afghanistan Embassy in Ottawa, issued the following statement today about the death of another Canadian soldier in Kabul on Saturday, October 29, 2011:

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Master Corporal Byron Garth Greff of the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, who was killed with 16 others in a terrorist attack on a military convoy in the Afghan capital of Kabul. We share the grief of this tragic loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family, his loved ones and his comrades. He was providing training and professional development to the Afghan National Security Forces.

“The people of Afghanistan will always remember his bravery and sacrifice in the interest of peace and security in our country. We are grateful to the people of Canada for their unwavering support and friendship. We will rely on this friendship to defeat the forces of violence and terror within Afghanistan and beyond and to provide a better and more secure future for our children.”
