STATEMENT BY CHARGÉ D’AFFAIRES, ERSHAD AHMADI ABOUT THE DEATH OF CORPORAL YANNICK SCHERRER
Ottawa: Mr. Ershad Ahmadi, Charge d'Affaires of the Afghanistan Embassy in Ottawa, issued the following statement today about the death of Cpl. Yannick Scherrer on Sunday, March 27, 2011:
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Corporal Yannick Scherrer, of the 1 st Battalion, Royal 22 nd Régiment Battle Group, based at Valcartier, Quebec. Cpl Scherrer was on a joint patrol together with Afghan soldiers in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province. We share the grief of this tragic loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family, his loved ones and his comrades.
“The people of Afghanistan will always remember his bravery and sacrifice in the interest of peace and security in our country. We are grateful to the people of Canada for their unwavering commitment and friendship. These sacrifices and the partnership to defeat the forces of violence and provide a more secure future for our peoples, have bound Afghanistan and Canada for ever.”
