Afghanistan to assist $500,000 in show of sympathy to the people of Gaza
July 16, 2014
A special meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai was held to express the condolences and sympathies of the people of Afghanistan to the Muslim nation of Palestine.

At the meeting in Arg in which the two Vice-presidents, Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance as well as the National Security Advisor were present, the Israeli attacks on Gaza and killings of innocent people were condemned.

In show of sympathy from the Afghan people, the meeting approved an amount of US$500,000 from the state budget in humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

Ambassador Bathija met with Minister of Citizenship and Immigration

On June 16, His Excellency Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Canada met with the Honourable Chris Alexander, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration of Canada.

During the meeting Minister Alexander congratulated the People of Afghanistan for the Successful runoff election and shared his perspectives on the importance of this election for the future of Afghanistan. He also praised the two candidates to continue with their commitment on democratic and peaceful process.

Embassy Statement on the successful Afghanistan Presidential Runoff Election

Ottawa: His Excellency Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada congratulates fellow countrymen for their participation in runoff presidential election of Afghanistan. According to the Election Commission of the country, people took part in great numbers.

Despite the enormity of the challenges and security related warning and threats, people showed up to vote in huge numbers.

Canada Congratulates Afghan People on Successful Presidential Runoff Election

ـافغانستان از جمله کشور هاي فعال، در يک دهه گذشته گام هاي ارزنده و جهشي را در سکتور مخابراتي و معلوماتي برداشته است و از دستاورد هاي آن به نحو احسن استفاده مي برد. اکنون بيشتر از20 ميليون نفر در افغانستان از شبکه هاي مخابراتي موجود در کشور بهره برده که اين خود در مقياس منطقه اي از آن به عنوان انقلاب مخابراتي نام برده مي توانيم.ـ

Meeting with Afghan Diaspora in Quebec and Grieving on the Afghanistan Landslide Disaster
May 11, 2014

H.E. Sham L. Bathija, Ambassador E. P.P. and Special envoy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, visited Montreal on Sunday May 11, 2014 to meet with Afghan community members to express his Sorrow and condolences on the landslide disaster in Aab Khosk village of Argo district of Badakhshan province that took live of around 300 of innocent people.

This event was participated by about 200 community members from Montreal and other Quebec Cities. Afghans present at the event showed their solidarity and sympathy their country man and women in Argo-Badakhshan.

Ottawa, May 9, 2014- Laissez moi premièrement présenter à vous et à la population canadienne les Salaams chaudes et les salutations de mon président Son Excellence Hamid Karzaï, premier vice-président SE Yonus Qanouni, deuxième vice-président SE Khalili, présidents de Loya Jirgha et Wolasi Jirgha (Sénat et Chambre basse) et mes ancien collègues ministres du Conseil des ministres, en particulier, SE Zarar Ahmad Osmani, le ministre des Affaires étrangères, les forces armées et la police de mon pays et le peuple afghan.
It is indeed a privilege for me to attend this solemn commemorative occasion of the National Day of Honour, being held here at Parliament Hill, to venerate the service and sacrifices of members of the Canadian military, those who have served in Afghanistan as well as their families.

اجازه بدهيد تا فرا رسيدن فرخنده روز مادر را به تمام مادران و زنان افغان مبارکباد بگويم. در اين روز جاي دارد که از زحمات و فداکاري اين مادران و زنان برجسته که در راه تربيه سالم اولاد وطن از هيچ نوع تلاشي دريغ نورزيده اند، مراتب امتنان خود را ابراز بداريم. بدون شک، مادران افغان در سخت ترين شرايط و با کمترين امکانات موجود، چه در وقت صلح و چه در وقت جنگ، فرزندان خود را براي خدمتگزاري به افغانستان پرورش داده اند. از اين بابت، ما فرزندان همين مادران زحمت کش به تدبير و بزرگواري، به سختکوشي و صبر شان اداي احترام و حرمت مي نماييم.ـ

جلالتماب شام لال بتهیجا، سفیر کبیر و نماینده فوق العاده جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در کانادا، اعتماد نامه خویش را به تاریخ 5 می سال ـ2014 میلادی طی مراسم خاصی در اوتاوا، به جلالتمآب دیوید جانستون، گورنر جنرال و سرقومندان اعلای قوای مسلح کانادا، تقدیم نمود.ـ

Ambassador Sham Lall Bathija, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, at a ceremony held in Rideau Hall, Ottawa, today at 10:30 am.

At a meeting that followed the official ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Bathija conveyed to the Governor General the best wishes of His Excellency Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and H.E Zarar Ahmad Osmani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and his hopes for further strengthened relations between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Canada.

Canada Offers Condolences Following Landslide in Northern Afghanistan
May 3, 2014
Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, today issued the following statement concerning a landslide in Northern Afghanistan. Initial reports suggest deaths of as many as 2,000. Afghanistan has designated tomorrow as a national day of mourning:

“On behalf of Canadians, we offer our deepest sympathies to the Afghan people affected by this tragic event. The sight of hundreds of Afghans rushing to assist the impacted communities is deeply moving.

“Canada stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan during this difficult time.”

National Day of Honour
May 2014
Canadians are invited to take part in the National Day of Honour on May 9. The Government of Canada has set aside this day to mark the end of our country’s military mission in Afghanistan.
A national ceremony on Parliament Hill will pay tribute to the fallen, the sacrifices of the wounded, and the special burden borne by families. Canadians will be invited to honour the legacy of these heroes with a national moment of silence.

UN Secretary General’s Special Representative Offers Condolences to President Karzai for Tragic Natural Disaster in Badakhshan Province

President Hamid Karzai met with Jan Kubis, the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

The meeting was held at the Presidential Palace where on behalf of the United Nations Office, Mr. Kubis offered his condolences and sympathies to President Karzai and the people of Afghanistan for the tragic natural disaster  in Badakhshan province.

Afghanistan election sees heavy turnout despite Taliban warnings

Millions of Afghans defied Taliban threats and rain Saturday, underscoring their enormous expectations from an election that comes as the country's wobbly government prepares to face down a ferocious insurgency largely on its own.

With combat forces from the U.S.-led coalition winding down a 13-year presence and the mercurial Hamid Karzai stepping aside, the country's new leader will find an altered landscape as he replaces the only president Afghans have known since the Taliban were ousted in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.
