“While Canada will work with the Afghan government to help with this transition, it is up to Afghans to ensure greater transparency, accountability, good governance and basic rights for all in their country.

Afghanistan to begin first commercial oil production
May 18 , 2013
ABC News: Afghanistan expects to begin the first commercial oil production in its history in a little under two months. The country's mining minister, Wahidullah Shahrani, has told the ABC processing will start at the Amu Darya basin in Afghanistan's north in July. The project is operated by the China National Petroleum Corporation and is expected to eventually supply Afghanistan with its domestic energy needs so it can stop importing oil.

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Deputy Secretary William Burns and his delegation visited Kabul May 11, 2013, to convene the second meeting of the Afghanistan-U.S. Bilateral Commission, established by the Afghanistan-U.S. Enduring Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). In the meeting, both sides reviewed progress in implementing the SPA’s shared vision of a secure, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan and discussed steps to strengthen our enduring partnership as sovereign nations.

President Karzai Stresses on Strengthening of Afghan Air Force, in Meeting with US Deputy Secretary of Defense
May 13 , 2013
President Hamid Karzai met on Monday evening with Ashton Carter, US Deputy Secretary of Defense to discuss issues of mutual interest.

The bilateral meeting was held in the Presidential Palace where, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen the  security forces of Afghanistan, particularly the Afghan air force, Afghan-US security agreement and current affairs in the region.

Afghan government lodges strong protest with Pakistan about unprovoked attack against Afghan forces near the Durand Line
May 6 , 2013
General of the First Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Azizuddin Ahmadzada, met with the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires in Kabul, Mr. Shah Nazar Afridi, this morning at the Foreign Ministry.

Mr. Ahmadzada lodged the Afghan government’s strong protest with Mr. Afridi about the unprovoked attack by Pakistani forces, who used both heavy and light weapons, against Afghan forces near the Durand Line in Goshta district, Nangarhar province this morning.

The Pakistani attack, which occurred at 8:20 a.m. this morning, did not result in any casualties to Afghan forces.

World Bank informs of robust economic growth in Afghanis
May 2, 2013
Khaama Presss, By Meena Haseeb, 01 May 2013-The World Bank in Afghanistan following its latest economic update on Wednesday informed a robust economic growth in Afghanistan amid security transition process.

The economic updated released on Wednesday concluded that the real GDP of Afghanistan has increased from 7.3 percent o an estimated 11.8 percent in 2012, with an exceptional harvest, supported by the launch of first large-scale mining activities.

Germany Signs Pact to Support Afghan Police Post-2014m
April 17, 2013
Deputy head of mission of the German embassy in Kabul called on the Afghan government to take full responsibility for the training centers built by his country around Afghanistan.

"We have built training centers for the police in many provinces. The government of Afghanistan should take responsibility for these centers and continue the process of training the police," said Oliver Owzca at an event in Kabul to sign the assistance agreement between the German police academy of Lübeck and Afghan interior ministry's police academy.
