| The Gala held at the Gospel Temple on May 14, included a silent auction, a musical performance by the Sister Shout! choir dedicated to Afghan women and a special address by the Afghan envoy, followed by a question and answer session. Amb. Samad provided an overview of the geo-political, security, humanitarian and development challenges that Afghanistan faced in the past 30 years, and the work that is in progress since 2001 as part of the democratization and rebuilding efforts. Explaining the reasons why Afghanistan matters to the international community, Amb. Samad praised the strong engagement of Canada to help his country on many fronts. He urged that the Canadian government, as well as the non-governmental, business and public sectors, continue to support his impoverished and war-torn nation until sustainable results are achieved. Established in 2002, CWA is a grassroots organization which has raised more than $40,000 to support Afghan teachers and fund projects for women and children. The Ambassador also met with members of the Afghan-Canadian community of Kingston and was interviewed by Afghan language RANA-FM radio broadcasting to southern Afghanistan. Embassy of Afghanistan
