Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, chaired a meeting of the Policy Action Group (PAG) yesterday evening at the Gulkhana palace.

The meeting focused on reconstruction and development programs for the provinces of Kandahar , Helmand , Uruzgan and Zabul.

Hanif Atmar, Minister of Education, who heads the reconstruction and development section of PAG, explained the current status of reconstruction and development projects in these provinces and said people in the districts of these provinces call on the Government and the international community to assist them with construction of roads, irrigation channels, schools, health clinics and the growth of agriculture.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned yesterday’s suicide attack in the province of Kandahar which killed three innocent civilians.

The President expressed his deep regret at the death of innocent civilians and said “The enemies of Afghanistan will achieve nothing by killing innocent civilians. The people of Afghanistan will ultimately achieve peace and their enemies will be brought to justice.

The President expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, ordered an investigation into the incident of Badakhshan province in which one person was killed and another wounded as a result of NATO fire incident.

The President spoke to the governor of Badakhshan province about the incident on the phone in detail. The President instructed the relevant authorities to conduct an investigation into the incident and report back to him as soon as possible.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, expressed his deep regret at the unfortunate death of two innocent civilians and wounding of another caused by a bomb blast in the province of Herat .

In his reaction to the news the President said “This heinous act of terrorism is against humanity and all principles of Islam and I condemned it in the strongest terms. The enemies of Afghanistan kill those devout Muslims who are fasting during the month of Ramadan.”

The President expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the full and speedy recovery of the injured.

Afghan foreign minister Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta at an official invitation from Mr. Abdullah Gull, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey to pay a visit to Turkey during 11 to 14 October, 2006.

The Ministry of Foreign affairs of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan expresses its profound concern and disapproval of the North Korea's purported nuclear test.

The Ministry views the test as a provocative act and detrimental to not only peace and stability of the region, but also to global efforts to contain the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The visiting Afghan delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Spanta visited the Institute of Oriental Studies Institute Saint Petersburg, Russia and held meeting with the scholars of the institute.  Dr. Spanta mentioned the high quality of many of the institute’s publications in disseminating information and knowledge about Asia. He also invited the institute to establish a working relation with the Centre of Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The head of the institute welcomed the Afghan delegation and stated the institute’s readiness to work with the Afghan institutions, in particular with the MoFA. Dr. Spanta is due to leave Saint Petersburg for Moscow on Wednesday, 4 th October.
