Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, received a telephone call this afternoon from H.E. George W. Bush, President of the United States of America.

During this telephone conversation, President Bush expressed his deep regret at the tragic traffic incident in Kabul which caused casualties and damages.

President Bush also expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and said “The Government and people of the United States of America are the friend of the people of Afghanistan and will always stand by them.”

President Karzai thanked President Bush for his sympathies and the assistance of the Government and people of the United States of America to Afghanistan and emphasized the continuation of a friendly relationship between the people of both countries.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, appealed to the people to remain calm and practice restraint after this morning’s traffic accident, which killed 5 people.
According to reports, due to technical faults a Coalition Forces vehicle got out of control in the area of Khair Khana and collided with two other Coalition vehicles and then hit other vehicles that were moving on the road, causing casualties and damages.

Upon hearing the news of the incident the President expressed his deep regret at the unfortunate death of 5 Afghans and prayed for the full and speedy recovery of the injured.

The President immediately summoned the security forces and instructed them to investigate the incident and ask the Coalition Forces for explanation. The President appealed to the people to remain calm and be patient so that security of the city would not be disrupted.

The President assured the people that Government will do its utmost to protect the lives of the people and their property and no disregard to the lives and well-being of our people will be tolerated.

Arg. Kabul- H.E Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, was saddened by the news of the earthquake in Indonesian island of Java, which killed at last three thousand people.

According to the reports, a strong earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Java, killing more than 3,000 people and At least 10,000 others are thought to have been injured.

The president expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Indonesian people and families of the victims.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, summoned Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry, Commander of the Coalition Forces in Afghanistan, to his office for an explanation about the incident in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province this morning.

General Eikenberry gave the President a full account of the incident in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province and said “Last Sunday, the terrorists had taken up position in a village in Panjwayi district of Kandahar at midnight and began moving out of the village in a queue to carry out terrorist activities.”

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the killing of a doctor and a UNICEF driver in the province of Herat.

The enemies of Afghanistan attacked a UNICEF vehicle in the outskirts of Herat city on Friday, killing a doctor and a UNICEF driver and wounding another.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the beheading of an elderly Afghan woman in Tappi village, north Wazirestan.

According to reports, armed men beheaded an elderly Afghan refugee woman on charges of spying for the United States of America in Tappi village, north Wazirestan.

In his reaction to the news the President said “The killing of an elderly woman who was living in north Wazirestan is against the historical and cultural values of Muslims. This gruesome act is unforgivable and no-one can justify it. This shameful act is an affront to all Afghans and their historical traditions.”

First of all, I would like to thank H.E. President Ilham Alyev and the people of the brotherly nation Azerbaijan for the very warm and generous hospitality extended to us during this summit.  Also, I thank the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and his colleagues for organizing this summit and for their efforts to strengthen cooperation among ECO member states.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, left for Baku, Azerbaijan, this morning to attend the 9 th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).  

In his address to the Summit the President will call for greater cooperation among the ECO member states, highlight the necessity of expanding and developing the intact natural resources available in the region and stress the significance of the global fight against terrorism.

According to reports, a plane flying from Yerevan, Armenia, to the southern Russian city of Sochi has crashed into the Black Sea, killing all 1 1 3 people on board.

The President, on behalf of the people of Afghanistan, expressed his heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Armenia.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, received a phone call which lasted about 20 minutes Yesterday afternoon from H.E. George W Bush, President of the United States of America. President Bush congratulated President Karzai on the approval of his cabinet by the Parliament.

The two Presidents discussed issues of bilateral interest and exchanged views on a wide range of issues including the fight against terrorism and NATO’s expansion in Afghanistan. President Bush assured President Karzai of the United States’ continued support in the common fight against terrorism and in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. President Karzai thanked the people and Government of the United States Of America for their unwavering support to the fight against terrorism and To the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, today inaugurated the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Board (JCMB) for the implementation of the commitments and benchmarks set forth in the Afghanistan Compact. On the occasion of the first meeting of the JCMB, the President hosted a luncheon for all members of the board.
