Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with H.E. Karel De Gucht, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium at the Gulkhana palace this evening.
During the meeting, the President and Foreign Minister Gucht discussed bilateral relations, the fight against narcotics, the situation of Afghan refugees in Belgium and the prospect of Afghanistan becoming a member of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has this evening received a significant volume of questions from journalists concerning developments relating to the Abdul Rahman case.
UNAMA, in implementing its mandate for good offices and the upholding of respect for human rights, has been following this case closely since the outset. We are working to find a solution in cooperation with the Government of Afghanistan.
Mr. Abdul Rahman has asked for asylum outside Afghanistan. We expect that this will be provided by one of the countries interested in a peaceful solution to this case. |

سفیر پاکستان مقیم کابل امروز به وزارت خارجه افغانستان احضار شد و احتجاج قوی جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در مورد حمله بر قنسلگری افغانستان در کویته توسط زلمی عزیز معین سیاسی وزارت خارجه به وی اظهار گردید . ـ
دیروز در شهر کویته مظاهره کنندگان که شمار آنان را مطبوعات 400 نفر تخمین نموده است زمانی به قنسلگری افغانستان در کویته حمله ور شدند که بخاطر حضور شوکت عزیز صدراعظم پاکستان در کویته تدابیر امنیتی شدید اتخاذ گردیده بود . ـ

In his reaction to the death of the Afghan policemen the President said, “They were the real sons of Afghanistan who lost their lives for the sake of peace and freedom in their country.” |

OTTAWA — International Cooperation Minister, Josée Verner, and Foreign Affairs Minister, Peter MacKay, announced today that the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will maintain its Afghanistan development funding level at $100 million for 2006-07, bringing Canada's total contribution to over $650 million from 2001-2009. The Ministers also announced new initiatives which build upon the progress already made in enhancing security, addressing the drugs challenge, creating economic opportunities, and building confidence in government.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Varanasi, India.
In his reaction to the news the President said, “This terrorist act is shocking and despicable. It is aimed at killing innocent civilians and I condemn it in the strongest terms.”
The Afghan people send their sympathies to the people of India. Afghans have suffered at the hands of terrorists for many years and understand the pain and suffering that terrorism causes. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and those injured.
