Arg, Kabul –H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, stressed the need for further coordination in the fight against terrorism during a special meeting of Government and international community representatives on security and development issues in the south of Afghanistan at the Gulkhana Palace this morning

1 . At the invitation of President Hu Jintao of the People’s Republic of China, Hamid Karzai , President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan , paid a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from 18 to 21 June 2006.

2 . President Hu Jintao held official talks with President Karzai. Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Mr. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, met with President Karzai respectively. In a cordial and friendly atmosphere, the leaders of the two countries had in-depth exchange of views and reached broad agreement on expanding and deepening China-Afghanistan relationship of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, on international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, who is currently attending the 5 th Summit of Shanghai Co-operation Organisation in China, strongly condemned the terrorist attack in the province of Kandahar, killing 10 innocent Afghan laborers and wounding 15.

In his reaction to the news the President said “This cowardly attack was the work of the enemies of Afghanistan who have always tried to spill innocent blood in our country. These innocent workers were the breadwinners of the poorest families and they were on their way to work, but the terrorists killed them.”

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, will leave for China to attend the “5 th Summit of Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO)” and to make an official visit to Beijing after the summit.  

The President, as a special guest at the SCO summit, will address the 5 th Summit of Shanghai Co-operation Organisation on a wide range of issues.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met with H.E. Francis Vendrell, the European Union’s Special Representative for Afghanistan at the Gulkhana palace this afternoon.

During this meeting, the President emphasized the effective fight against terrorism, the reconstruction of Afghanistan, the strengthening of national institutions and the training and equipping of the National Army and Police.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the terrorist attack in the province of Kandahar.

This morning, the enemies of Afghanistan detonated a vehicle loaded With explosives in Kandahar while the Governor of Kandahar was passing, Killing 4 innocent civilians and injuring 13 others, but the Governor was safe.

Arg, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, strongly condemned the killing of Hajji Mursalin in Manugai district of Kunar province.

According to reports, the enemies of Afghanistan killed Hajji Mursalin while he was praying in a mosque in the province of Kunar on Friday. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan welcomes the US’ proposal to join the European States to hold talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue.

It has been the stated policy of Afghanistan that the best mechanisms to resolve international disputes are diplomatic and peaceful channels.

The Ministry is confident the US’ proposal will contribute to find a peaceful solution to the issue.

It is expected that Dr.Rangeen Dadfar Spenta Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan pay an official visit to Tokyo , Japan at the invitation of the Japans government on June 5, 2006 for participating at the second foreign ministers meeting of the central Asian countries and Japan (Central Asia Plus Japan) and address the meeting as guest speaker.

The foreign ministers at this conference shall discuss and exchange views on issues Pertaining to struggle against terrorism, narcotics, de mining, and eradication of poverty, public health, environment, trade and investments. The first meeting of this conference was held in Kazakhstan in August of 2004.

Besides attending the Tokyo Conference, the Afghan foreign minister will meet the Japanese prime minister, foreign minister, minister of economy and commerce and the chairman of the Japanese JICA agency. This is the first visit of the new Afghan foreign minister.

The foreign affairs minister has said: " Japan is one of the greatest donor countries In the reconstruction of Afghanistan for which Afghanistan attaches an exceptional importance .Afghanistan and Japan have historic ties of cooperation in Cultural, building of economic, infrastructure spheres and in particular Japan has Played an extraordinary important part in DDR and the DAIAG process for the People of Afghanistan.

The Japanese government had committed as in assistance of USD 1455 million in the Tokyo, Berlin and London conferences for improving livelihood of the Afghan people of which the Japanese government has provided USD 958.8 million to the Afghan side.

The visit of the Afghan foreign minister indicates further consolidation of friendly Ties between the two countries. From the spokesman's office.
