Presidential Palace, Kabul – H.E. Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, met this afternoon with H.E. Traian Basescu, President of Romania.

Romania’s contribution to the War on Terror and security in Afghanistan, and other areas of cooperation between Afghanistan and Romania were discussed during the meeting. On behalf of the Afghan people, the President thanked Romania for its contribution to the security of Afghanistan.

H.E. Traian Basescu announced that an extra amount of 400 Romanian soldiers will be sent to Afghanistan to help securing the country for the Parliamentary Elections. Romania will also open an Embassy in Kabul soon. Romanian has kindly 72 soldiers in the ISAF forces and 420 soldiers in the Coalition Forces.
