Ottawa – Today at 10am, Ambassador Jawed Ludin, presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, at a ceremony held in Rideau Hall, Ottawa.
At a meeting that followed the official ceremony, Ambassador Ludin conveyed to the Governor General the best wishes of His Excellency Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, and his hopes for further strengthened relations between the two countries.
The Afghan Ambassador thanked the Canadian people and Government for their comprehensive support towards stability and reconstruction in Afghanistan over the last years, paying particular tribute, on behalf of the Afghan people, to the memory of the 123 Canadians who have lost their lives while serving in Afghanistan.
The Governor General, showed keen interest in events unfolding in Afghanistan, and in the upcoming presidential elections in particular.
At a reception following the ceremony, the diplomatic staff of the Afghan Embassy in Ottawa and the Consul General in Toronto were introduced by the new Ambassador to the Governor General.
