به روز سه شنبه مورخ 22 جولای 2008، عمر صمد سفیر جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در کانادا، اعتماد نامهً خویش را منحیث سفیر غیر مقیم در جمهوری چیلی، به جلالتمآبه میشل بشلیت رئیس جمهور آن کشور طی مراسم خاصی تقدیم نمود که بالنتیجه روابط دیپلوماتیک افغانستان و چیلی برای اولین بار بر قرار گردید. در همین مراسم سفیر افغانستان پیام حسن نیت جلالتمآب حامد کرزی، رئیس جمهور ج.ا. افغانستان را به رئیس جمهور کشور چیلی تقدیم نمود.ـ

Government of Canada Launches Request for Bids on Afghanistan Dahla Dam Project

OTTAWA, July 14, 2008— Today, the Government of Canada announced that it is seeking bids from Canadian-based companies to lead on repairs to the Dahla Dam in Kandahar province – one of Canada’s signature projects in Afghanistan. Rehabilitation of the dam supports one of Canada’s key priorities in the country, which is to build capacity to provide basic services – in this case, water – to the Afghan people.

Statement by Omar Samad, Afghan Ambassador to Canada

“The Government of Afghanistan welcomes the announcement made today by the Government of Canada kicking off the process of repairs and rehabilitation of the all-important Dahla Dam in the province of Kandahar.

It is estimated that this project will provide thousands of farmers with enough water to irrigate about 10,000 hectares of land in the Arghandab region and beyond.
