| Ottawa – Afghans living in Canada, in Afghanistan and in the Diaspora express deep sorrow at the tragic news of the death of the young, talented and popular star Nasrat Parsa, on Sunday in Vancouver, B.C.
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa and the large community of Afghans and Afghan-Canadians are outraged by the news of Mr. Parsa’s death after he was attacked by a disgruntled fan outside his hotel in Vancouver following a performance on Saturday night in commemoration of Mother’s Day.
Omar Samad, Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Canada said, “All Afghans mourn the senseless killing of Nasrat Parsa.” He added, “Mr. Parsa’s bright career came to an abrupt ending as a result of a thuggish act that cannot be justified.”
On behalf of the Afghans and the Government, the Afghan Ambassador extended condolences to Mr. Parsa’s family, friends and fans. He added, “This tragedy is a reminder of our responsibilities as parents, families and as a community, to live within the bounds of morality and the law, and in accordance with the highest standards of our traditions.”
The Afghan Embassy in Ottawa is in contact with federal, provincial and city authorities to make sure that the alleged culprit(s) is brought to justice, and that all details of the case are made available.
At this point, it is reported that a 19-year old man of Afghan origin has been arrested near the scene of the crime and charged with aggravated assault, later changed to manslaughter. The case is still under police investigation.
Mr. Parsa’s body will be flown back to Germany on Wednesday for burial where his immediate family resides.
