Last year's Air Force bomb mastermind arrested

KABUL, May 17, (Pajhwok Afghan News) -- A man arrested in connection with the bombing of Kabul Air Force University last year, has confessed to masterminding the bombing that killed an Afghan intelligence officer and the bomber, police officials said Tuesday.

Raza Khan, from Paghman district of Kabul, arrested yesterday by Kabul city police city admitted a man named Javid gave him a bomb in pressure cooker to be planted at the University.

Lieutenant-Gen. Abdul Jamil Junbish, the head of the counter-terrorism department at the interior ministry, told Pajhwok Afghan News today that he was arrested in the Fifth police district of Kabul. The man in custody has given the names of two other accomplices, Tayeb and Abdul Rahim, from Kabul.

The security in the capital Kabul has been stepped up since the appointment of the new police chief, Akram Khakririzwal leading to the arrests of many suspected terrorists.

But criminal incidents in the capital are reported to have increased with the parliamentary elections only months away.

Earlier this week, three suspected terrorists were arrested from Sarobi district, southeast of Kabul and one of them during questioning vouched to fight against the US military to the end.
