URUZGAN, May 17 (Pajhwok Afghan News): Military officials in southern Afghanistan claimed on Tuesday they had arrested 15 Taliban fighters in the central Uruzgan province.
General Muslim Amid, commander of 205 Corps in Kandahar, told Pajhwok by telephone they had also seized heavy weapons and sensitive documents from the arrested fighters. He said: "In a crackdown on insurgents in Dahrod district, we captured the Taliban while they were preparing for terrorist activities in the province."
The coalition forces were also part of the operation, the general said, adding the Taliban put up no resistance. "The operation is still in progress." He did not disclose identities of the arrested men, saying investigation was going on. Taliban have said nothing so far about the arrest claim. |
