LONDON, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Britain will hold a Donors Conference in June aimed at raising funds for helping rebuild Afghanistan, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said on Monday.

"The Donors Conference...will be held here in London on 21 June, and on 23 June. I will be hosting the G8 Foreign Ministers meeting, again here in London, and I look forward to seeing Dr Abdullah Abdullah at both of those meetings." Straw said at news conference with Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah.

"The United Kingdom is committed to helping Afghanistan and its people in the long term. We are the third largest bilateral donor to Afghanistan, and the largest to the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund." Straw said.

In the last three years, billions of dollars of aid have been raised for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. "What we seek, and we seek it to be continued, is continued long term support and engagement in Afghanistan in partnership with the international community in order for Afghanistan to overcome the remaining challenges." Abdullah said.

Abdullah said the Donors Conference will be another opportunity for Afghanistan. Abdullah and his Ministerial team were in London to participate in British Foreign Office's Conference on Afghanistan, organized at Wilton Park, which was also attended by the new Minister of State in British Foreign Office, Kim Howells, who covers Afghanistan.
