| KABUL, May 12 (AFP) - A candidate in Afghanistan's first post-Taliban parliamentary elections and his driver were killed in a firefight in southern Ghazni province which also left two militants dead, an official said Thursday.
The candidate, identified as Aktar Mohammad Tolwak, died late Wednesday when a group of Taliban militants attacked his vehicle near the town of Deh Yak, outside Ghazni city, provincial governor Assadullah Khalid told AFP.
"Tolwak was killed last night after Taliban attacked his vehicle. His driver and two Taliban were also killed," the governor added.
Remnants of the Taliban regime, ousted by a US-led military operation in late 2001, have threatened to derail the long-delayed polls which are due to take place in September.
