Ambassador Samad speaks at the “Canada in Afghanistan: Assessing the 3D Approach” conference held in Waterloo, Ontario, sponsored by the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies, The Centre for International Governance Innovation, the Academic Council on the United Nations System, the Centre on Federalism and Foreign Policy and the Waterloo University. He is joined on the panel by Dr. William Maley, Director, Asia-Pacific College of Diplomacy, Australian National University, addressing the topic “Afghanistan: the big picture” and answering to questions from the audience. Consul General to Toronto, Mr. Wahid Monawar and Consul Mr. Wais Wali also attended the conference (see Embassy press release section for the Ambassador’s remarks at the conference).

The Afghan envoy attends the celebrations in Edmonton, Alberta, marking the centennial of the South Alberta Light Horse Regiment (SALHR) and the opening of the Provincial Museum’s “Hoof Prints to Tank Tracks” exhibition. As the reviewing officer, Amb. Samad is joined by Major General Andrew Leslie, former commander of ISAF and the Canadian contingent in Afghanistan, Brigadier General Stuart Beare, Commander, Land Force Western Area, Colonel (Hon) Stanley Milner, president of the SALHR Foundation, LCol. Thomas Putt, Commanding Officer SALHR, Dr. Bruce McGillivray, Director of the Provincial Museum of Alberta, and other provincial and parliamentary dignitaries at the ceremonies (see Embassy press release section for the Ambassador’s speech at the event).
