| The Afghan Ambassador calls on H.E. Pierre Pettigrew, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his office on parliament Hill. Accompanied by Mr. Sharif Ghalib, Minister Counsellor and Mr. Siddiqullah Habibi, Second Secretary at the Embassy, Amb. Samad exchanges views on a host of issues of mutual interest with Minister Pettigrew (go to PRESS RELEASES for details).  The Ambassador and Mrs. Samad visit Toronto and meet with Afghan community leaders. During a two-hour long interactive discussion, the Ambassador gives a thorough presentation on the situation in Afghanistan and encourages the business community as well as expatriate professionals to take part in the reconstruction and development of their native land.
They also meet nine-year-old Jamshid Popal, who recently underwent a successful heart operation in Canada. They wished Jamshid, who was accompanied by his father, a speedy recovery and presented him with a present on behalf of the Afghan Embassy and Consulates. They also thanked the staff of the medical facilities and other Afghan and Islamic organizations that helped save Jamshid’s life by funding and helping the young Afghan boy’s stay and cover his medical costs while in Canada.
The Ambassador also meets with Consul General Waheed Monawar and the staff of the Consulate.
During his stay in Toronto, the Ambassador meets separately with the Editorial and news staff of the Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun newspapers. He briefs them on current events in Afghanistan and answers their questions on a host of related issues. |

The Ambassador later appears as the guest speaker of a round-table discussion on Afghanistan sponsored by the South Asia Partnership of Canada and Member of Parliament, Hon. Wajid Khan. A question and answer session follows a comprehensive presentation. |
