How to apply

The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa issues visas to individuals residing in, and/or applying from, Canada. Visas are also issued at the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Toronto. Click here if you wish to apply at the Consulate General in Toronto.

Applications for visas can be made either by post or in person.

Postal applications must be sent by REGISTERED MAIL to:

The Embassy will not take any responsibility for loss of documents which are not sent as registered post.

Those applying in person should apply at the Consular Section of the Embassy (located at the address above) during the section’s official opening hours which are:

Monday through Friday from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm.

The Consular Section is closed outside these hours as well as on Saturdays and Sundays.

In-person applicants will receive a ‘return tariff’ which they must bring back on the specified date to collect their passport(s). In-person applicants can request for their passports to be returned to them by post in which case they must submit a registered, self-addressed return envelop or enclose the necessary payment (CAD 20) to cover postage cost alongside the regular consular fees.

Applications will be processed in order of their receipt by the Embassy. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing necessary documentation will not be processed.

After the Embassy has received completed application(s) with all the necessary documents and payments, visas will normally be issued within 10 Working Days. A fast-track processing service is available for exceptional cases which will incur with additional charges.

Applicants are requested to avoid making any travel arrangements before obtaining their visas. The Embassy will not accept any responsibility for delay in obtaining your visas or changes in your travel plans.

All applicants, whether applying by post or in person, must submit the following items as part of their application package:

• Visa Application Form – fully completed and duly signed.

• The applicant’s passport (passports must be valid for at least three months past the end date of the visa applied for)

• Two standard passport size photos affixed to the appropriate box on the application form (photos must be freshly taken and identical, taken directly off the face and show both ears with a light background)

• Documents verifying the applicant’s current address in Canada, such as driving licence, utility bills, municipal papers, etc.

• Applicants travelling for employment or business purposes must provide documentation from their present or prospective employer or the organisation concerned verifying purpose of visit.
  
• To apply for the Work Entry Permit, Applicants mush provide the work permit (letter) issued by the Government of Afghanistan only.

• Visa processing fee (see the fees table below) – paid by money order or certified bank cheque made payable to ‘The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa’.

• If requesting a "fast-track" service (24 hours), an additional paymet of CAD 70 must be added to the fee amount.

• Postal applications must include return postal cost of CAD20 added to the visa processing fee amount, or enclose a prepaid, registered, self-addressed return envelop.

* Visa Fee is not returnable once the application is submitted .
* All charges are in Canadian dollars

Payment method

• Visa fees and all other consular charges are ONLY payable in CAD. Payment in any other currency will not be accepted.
• Visa fees and all consular charges must be paid by BANK CHEQUE (certified cheque) or MONEY ORDER made payable to ‘ The Embassy of Afghanistan in Ottawa ’. Payment by cash, personal cheques or bank transfer will not be accepted.
• In case of multiple passports, or payment of return postal charges, a single money order or certified bank cheque, covering the total amount due, may be submitted.
• Money order or bank cheque must be submitted together with completed application form.
