| Statement by Ministers Baird and Oda on Poisoning of Afghan School Girls |

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird and Minister of International Cooperation Beverley J. Oda today issued the following statement on the poisoning of more than 100 Afghan school girls in Takhar province:
“Canada condemns this cowardly and senseless act of violence against innocent school girls and their teachers.
“We are concerned about recent similar incidents targeting Afghan school children and we hope the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.

The NATO Summit meeting on Afghanistan hosted by the Government of the United States held in Chicago, and was successfully concluded on May 21, 2012.
On his statement President Hamid Karzai said, “An irreversible Transition in Afghanistan will also depend on continued support and cooperation from our NATO allies and other partner countries. Such support, particularly in training, equipping and capacity development of the ANSF, would be crucial to Afghanistan’s ability to defend itself against any external and internal threats. In this context, we welcome the shift in NATO’s role from combat to a new training, advising and assistance mission.

Thank you very much, President Obama, for the warm welcome and hospitality in the magnificent city of Chicago. It is a pleasure to be addressing this important summit of the NATO Alliance, the ISAF contributing countries and other partners from around the world.
The road that has led to this important juncture in the partnership between Afghanistan and the international community started right here in the United States over a decade ago when, in the aftermath of the 9/11, the world coalesced around the objective of eliminating international terrorism.

| Ambassador Karimi met with Honourable Scheer |

Today may 17, His Excellency Barna Karimi, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Canada met with Honourable Andrew Scheer, Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada in his office.
During the meeting the Speaker welcomed Ambassador to Canada and Parliament Hill, and wished him success for strengthening friendly relation between Canada and Afghanistan. He also assured Ambassador Karimi that Canada will be there and will remain friend of Afghanistan, in return Ambassador Karimi mentioned that Afghanistan government is doing its best to be a good partner of the international community.
At the end Ambassador Karimi signed the book of guests that is set for officials meeting with speaker of the House of Commons or Senate.

Designated Ambassador to Afghanistan, His Excellency Glenn Davidson, paid an official visit to Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Ottawa and met with His Excellency Barna Karimi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Canada.
H. E. Ambassador Davidson, who is very enthusiastic to resume his position in Kabul very soon, was conveying a message of support from the Canadian Government to Afghanistan and mentioned that it would be a very important assignment for him after serving in Syria as Canadian Ambassador.

| US May Fund More Than Expected To Afghan Forces After 2014 |

| The Afghan government anticipates that the United States will pay more than its majority share of the $4.1 billion annual security budget decided upon at last month's Nato meeting in Brussles.
Afghanistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Jawed Ludin said at a press conference in Kabul Wednesday that he is quite sure the US will add more money on top of that budget.
"We are pretty confident that we will get more than $4.1 billion," Ludin said.

| The oilfield of Aqina and Andkhuy seismic contract has been signed with a Canadian Company (Terasize) |

Seismic investigations contract, the oilfield of Aqina and Andkhuy (for
the purpose of determing the structures of oil wells of Aqina and
Andkhuy) today it has been signed by Mr Wahidullah Sharani the Minister
of Mines and Mr. john the head of Terasize limited.
According to this contract seismic, method of clarifying and approving the structures of anticline for refinement of oil and gas. The total distance of Aqina and Ankhoy areas are 236 Km2 and its total expense is 6, 5 million $ from internal budget. After the approval, these projects will start and will be completed at maximum period of three months, and the result of these investigations will be announced.

| Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan concluded his trip to Canada |

Following a successful three day visit to Canada, His Excellency Daoud Ali Najafi, concluded his trip and left Ottawa on May 3rd, 2012.
The significance of his trip was to discuss, approve and endorse Afghanistan Civil Aviation Roadmap in a special committee meeting with His Excellency Roberto Kobeh Conzalea, President of International Civil Aviation Organization, Secretary General of ICAO, representatives of the European Union, Germany, India, Japan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
