Statement by Foreign Minister Hon. John Baird on Elections in Afghanistan

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:

“Canada congratulates the Afghan people for courageously taking to the polls, in high numbers, exercising their right to vote during the presidential and provincial council elections.

"We welcome reports of an unprecedented number of Afghan women who ensured that their voices were heard, and we support their desire for a brighter and stable future.

Afghanistan election sees heavy turnout despite Taliban warnings
april 5 , 2014
Millions of Afghans defied Taliban threats and rain Saturday, underscoring their enormous expectations from an election that comes as the country's wobbly government prepares to face down a ferocious insurgency largely on its own.

With combat forces from the U.S.-led coalition winding down a 13-year presence and the mercurial Hamid Karzai stepping aside, the country's new leader will find an altered landscape as he replaces the only president Afghans have known since the Taliban were ousted in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

پیام تسلیت سفارتکبرای جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در کانادا به خاطر درگذشت روانشاد حبیب الله غالب، وزیر عدلیۀ جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان

سفارتکبرای جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در اوتاوا، مراتب تاسف و اندوه خود را نسبت به درگذشت شادروان حبیب الله غالب، وزیر عدلیۀ جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان، به خانواده و دوستان مرحومی ابراز می دارد. ـ

مرحوم حبیب الله غالب، یکی از شخصیت های برازندۀ علمی و صاحب نام کشور بود که در طول سالیان متمادی خدمات علمی و حقوقی شایانی را در افغانستان انجام داده، و در راه اعمار و آبادانی وطن از هیچ مجاهدت و تلاشی دریغ نورزید. مرحومی در چند سال اخیر به عنوان وزیر عدلیۀ دولت جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان با سختکوشی و اصلاح گری، رهبری یکی از مهمترین ارگان های تقنینی کشور را به عهده داشته، و بدون شک درگذشت این مدیر و آموزگار با تجربه، ضایعه ای بزرگ برای افغانستان به حساب می آید. ـ

سفارت جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان در اوتاوا، ضمن تقدیر از زحمات علمی و حقوقی شادروان حبیب الله غالب، وزیر عدلیۀ جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان، درگذشت ناگوار ایشان را به خانواده و دوستان مرحومی تسلیت عرض کرده و از بارگاه الهی برای وی مغفرت و برای بازمانده گان شان صبر جمیل تمنا دارد.ـ


 
پیام تسلیت جلالتماب حامد کرزی، رئیس جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان، مبنی بر وفات مرحوم جلالتماب حبیب الله غالب، وزیر عدلیه کشور

با تاسف فراوان آگاهی یافتم که حبیب الله غالب یکی از دانشمندان ورزیده کشور شخصیت اجتماعی و وزیر عدلیه جمهوری اسلامی افغانستان، در اثر مریضی که عاید حالش بود داعی اجل را لبیک گفت.ـ

انا لله وانا الیه راجعون
روان شاد حبیب الله غالب خدمتگار وطن دوست و مجاهد نستوه بود. در ادارات دولتی کشور خدمت صادقانه کرد. در دوران جهاد با مجاهدان همراه بود، خدمات علمی و فرهنگی قابل ذکری رابه فرجام رساند. در سال های آخر عمرش به حیث وزیر عدلیه به صداقت و سخت کوشی در خدمت وطن قرار داشت. خدمات او قابل قدر و مرگش ضایعه است.ـ

Adopted back 4 years ago by the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Nowruz, the occasion, celebrated by more than 178 million people in over 11 countries is registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Statement on the Passing away of the First Vice-president of Afghanistan

It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing away of Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, the First Vice-president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.  May his soul rest in peace.

President Karzai called the demise of Marshal Qasim Fahim, a great loss for Afghanistan and offered condolences to the people of Afghanistan on his passing away. 

The President described him as a patriotic Afghan and a great Mujahid who was at the service of his people.

Afghan Ministries Celebrate International Women's Day
March 5, 2014
LOn the eve of International Women's Day, the Ministry of Women's Affairs held an event in Kabul that focused on encouraging women to vote in the upcoming elections and highlighting the challenges they still face in society.

The leaders of the gathering asked women all over the country to participate in the Presidential and Provincial Council elections so that they can have a say in the future direction of the country.

Afghanistan Ministerial Delegation Participates in PDAC 2014
March 3, 2014
LSPA Sharif Ghalib accompanied the Ministerial delegation of Afghanistan to the Annual Convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, PDAC 2014. The event took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Canada on March 2nd-5th.

Headed by H.E. Mohammad Akbar Barakzai, Minister of Mines of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and comprising 6 members, the delegation held extensive meetings and exchanges with counterparts, and various other delegations including the US Geological Survey and the World Bank.

Education at the Margins; Panel Discussing Education in Fragile & Conflict-Affected States

SPA Sharif Ghalib joined Alice Albright, Chief Executive Officer, Global Partnership for Education, and David Morley, President and CEO of UNICEF Canada, for sharing perspectives on lessons learned, best practices and the way forward on delivering education in fragile and conflict - affected states.

Organized by Aga Khan Foundation Canada in partnership with Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), the panel discussed the role of governments, civil society, and multilateral institutions in delivering
education programs in challenging post-conflict environments.

President Karzai Strongly Condemns Killing of 19 Army Soldiers
February 23 , 2014
Initial reports by the Ministry of Defense indicate that the enemies of Afghanistan attacked last night two Afghan National Army posts on Ghaziabad highway in Kunar province in which 19 soldiers were killed and 6 others went missing. 

President Karzai condemns the terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms and praised the brave soldiers who lost their lives defending and protecting their country’s national honors.

Foreign Minister Met with Canadian Ambassador to Kabul

KABUL – Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani met with the Canadian Ambassador to Kabul Deborah Lyons.
Both sides talked and exchanged views on different issues of interest. The Foreign Minister welcomed the ambassador and talked about friendly relations between the two countries. The Foreign Minister said: “Relations between Afghanistan and Canada are very important for us. Canada is a country that has cooperated with Afghanistan during the past decade in security, developmental, and infrastructural areas; and the Afghan people really appreciate it”.
